Our Editorial Values

We think readers deserve content that is:

• Accurate, and clear about where each claim came from
• Practical and easy to understand
• Independent of manufacturer influence
• Written with safety and responsibility in mind
• Updated as new information becomes available

Above all: we explain tradeoffs rather than declaring winners. Most products solve one problem while creating another, and our job is to describe both.

How We Research

Most of our product coverage is research synthesis rather than hands-on testing. We work from manufacturer documentation, independent testing, owner feedback, retailer data, and firsthand experience where we have it — and we say which is which.

We cross-verify claims across sources and never rely solely on a manufacturer’s marketing materials. Where published sources disagree, we show the range instead of picking a number. Our experience comes from civilian firearm ownership, concealed carry, regular range use, and military service.

Independence

We do not sell rankings or placement on our recommendation lists.

We do not accept payment for coverage.

We do not let companies approve, control, or dictate our editorial conclusions.

We do contact manufacturers to check facts — to confirm a rating, clarify a specification, or make sure we’ve represented their position accurately. That’s fact-checking, and it makes articles better. What it never means is handing over editorial control.

Companies occasionally send product samples. When a review draws on a sample we were sent, the article says so. Receiving one has never been a condition of what we write about it.

Products earn their placement based on safety, reliability, durability, value relative to price, user experience, manufacturer support, and the available technical evidence. If a product doesn’t meet our standards, we don’t recommend it, regardless of its affiliate potential.

How Content Gets Reviewed

Before publication, every article is checked for:

• Safety and responsibility

• Alignment with our research standards
• Consistency with our mission and tone

We revise or remove content that no longer meets these standards.

AI and Human Review

We use AI tools in parts of our writing and research process. Nothing goes live without a human reviewing it, checking the facts against sources, and taking responsibility for what it says.

We’d rather tell you that plainly than claim a purity we couldn’t demonstrate. What matters is whether a claim is true and sourced, and that’s a human’s job here.

Corrections and Updates

We update articles when new products are released, specifications or availability change, regulations shift, or safety considerations evolve. Major updates carry a “last updated” note.
